On the way out of the Bia Hoi, Tan and I got offered vodka at a table full of locals. Its rude to say no to this type of gesture. Sean was offered too on his way out, but he threw up under this table, so he went on. Tan and I could handle ourselves and talked to the locals for a while, while sharing their vodka. Happens all the time. They see a white person, who can understand what they are saying, and its like "WHOAAA!!!" Nice guys. Not just white, but foreigner. Most people in Ha noi LOVE talking to foreigners, and would gladly trade vodka for a story to tell their friends. Seriously though, no lie, it would have been rude for Tan and me to decline. Its like how the Dali Lama is vegetarian, but will eat meat without complaining if that is what people cook him or bring to him as gifts. Human interaction is more important than ideals. Ideals, after all have gotten millions of people killed over the centuries...people unwilling to bend, compromise, be friendly. Yeah? :)
